On this page you get an insight in one of my passions as a collector
of electronic toy instruments. I happily admit that my collection
is nothing in compare with www.miniorgan.com
but I am working on it and my collection focusing more on circuit
bended stuff.
Some of these original instruments will be available in digital
form at www.precisionsound.net
later.
In these days of 192 KHz recording equipment, this lofi toys
really cut trough a mix and makes true spice for a professional
music production like never before… it’s the truth.
I am not surprised at all that prices in some cases are getting
higher and higher on Ebay. The problem is often their incompability
with a modern studio setup, no MIDI no line out in many chases.
Circuit bended
The Speak & Spell by Texas Instrument is
a really nice toy for weird sounds if circuit bended. My item
has been circuit bended by "BugBrand".
Visit his site here: Knowledge
of bugs
Speak & Math, also a "BugBrand"
creation. Soon the Speak & read mod will be ready. :)
The Super Speak & Spell is not that often
circuit bended but this item has ben well done by Tom Bugs.
It's capable of some weird noise i can promise.
For sound demos of this modificated T.I toys, check out the
Tom Bugs site
BugBrand: www.bugbrand.co.uk
This rare Casio Sk8 has been circuit bended
by "Tablebeast". Visit the site here: www.circuit-bent.com
Realistic Session Mate CB'ed by "BugBrand".
RSM is a band in a box autocomp box that I think was flop at
the time. This version of it is special... You can easily "crush"
the tempo and sound of the autocomp and get very random and
unusal results.
BugBrand creations
Tom Bugs are also building his own weird sound boxes under the
name "BugBrand". I have bought some and I am using
them regularly in my music productions to add extra spice.
The Wheevil Extreme is custom designed by Tom
Bugs for my taste. Heaven blue and brushed aluminium knobs.
This box is capable of some extreme sounds. I have used it on
productions with JOJJE and Daniella.
The Filter box is an analogue filter with a
twist... :) I have not used it yet in any production but I probably
will. It's yellow and matches the IKEA 9v batteries well. At
the moment of writing it's in Bristol for an update.
Original instruments (selected items)
This is the big brother to the classic Stylophone. I also have
the brown "new sound", white and black one. The Dubrek
Stylophone 350s has a lot of voices or registers that
you can combine. Both the woodstyle sound of the brown "new
sound" square type and the "beefy" saw sound
of the black and white.
Waddington
compute-a-tune.
Made with "space technology" in 1978. Super "Bleep"
sound for synthpop.
V-Tech Music Major is a very fun little organ
with speech synthesis and analog sound, not like the newer V-tech
stuff with sampling. The animal soundeffects in this keyboard
is... odd and the drums are s little like a Roland.

MEGO Muson Syntheziser is a very simple synth
with an odd sequeser. Extremely handy for composing fire alarm
signals...
Texas
Instruments Speak & Music has some very good lofi
sounds. Maybe Electron will built something on the T.I chip
as they did with the SID station? I think it could be realy
nice... :)
This was some of the stuff i own that is of more interest
i think, maybe I will add all of them to the site in the future
but not at this moment. |
